THE DAWDLER

BIOGRAPHY

Originally from South Tyneside and now based in central Newcastle, John Edgar aka The Dawdler has spent the last few months creating his best work yet, a distillation of all that’s come before and a perfect snapshot of an artist hitting their true potential. The North East has a rich history of producing important works - art with impact, light from darkness. The tradition of socio-economic injustice continues to devalue the towns and cities on a large scale, though as visible as this is it’s often been the people who bear the brunt; resulting in a specific heritage of both empathy and stoicism – a softness to be found beneath more brutal realities – an area in which The Dawdler excels.

Debut EP Keith in Ballachulish was self-released just a year ago. Lo-fi bedroom recorded snippets became delicately arranged full songs, already loved by so many. Debut single Around Eve landed on numerous editorial playlists, including The Most Beautiful Songs In The World. A few million streams combined with regular airplay and key live dates have seen The Dawdler’s ambient alternative-pop sounds gain an eager new fan base. Latest release Dark Clouds has tread a similar path so far, the first single to be taken from the forthcoming second EP, this time via a new home at Akira Records. Aided once more by long-time friends and collaborators Will Thorneycroft and David Turnbull, the sound is now far fuller, doing justice to the reverb shrouded sentiment within. Additional input from Calum Howard (piano/synths) and Matt Saxon (percussion) has brought to light the depth of Edgar’s writing, allowing for carefully considered arrangements and far broader sonic horizons.
